Active and passive trainers are motorized exercise machines for the arms and legs. In passive mode, the motor moves the arms or legs for the user, so even people with little or no strength can exercise. In active mode, the user pedals against resistance as their strength improves.

Active and passive trainers are used in physical therapy, neurological rehabilitation, long-term care, and at home, and are commonly used by people with stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injury, and other conditions that limit mobility. Most models are used from a standard chair or wheelchair, and in-bed models allow exercise while lying down. Choose from motorized-only trainers, standard active and passive trainers that switch modes manually, and smart trainers that switch automatically based on the user's effort. Available features include spasm detection, symmetry training, and simultaneous arm and leg training.
